Two-time Olympic champion in water polo Kabanov died at the age of 72

As an athlete, in addition to the gold medals of the Games and World Championships, Kabanov won the European Championship, twice the World Cup and the Universiade, as well as five times the USSR Championship.

Under the leadership of Kabanov, the USSR national team became the bronze medalist of the Games-1998 as the head coach, and with the men's national team of Russia he won the silver of the 2004 Olympics and the bronze medal of the Games-2000, as well as gold and bronze medals at the World Championships, World Cup and World League. The Russian women's team under his leadership became the champion of Europe, and twice a bronze medalist of the world championships.
