  In order to allow athletes sufficient time to obtain qualification points, the IAAF decided to extend the track and field qualification period to next year, but between April 5 and November 30, 2020, the qualification will continue to be suspended.

  The new target cycle for the marathon and 50km race walking project is from December 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The 10,000-meter, 20-kilometer race, all-around project, relay and other projects have new compliance cycles from December 1, 2020 to June 29, 2021.

  According to the rules, the top ten men and women of the 2019 Doha World Championships Marathon will go straight to the Olympics. At the same time, in the goal period from January 1, 2019 to April 5, 2020, the top five and six Grand Slam events (Boston Marathon, London Marathon, Berlin Marathon, Chicago Marathon, New York Marathon) , Tokyo Marathon) will be eligible for the Olympic Games.

  During the period from December 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021, only the top ten of the global platinum standard events and the champions of the gold standard events will be eligible for the Olympics.

  As for the relay-through Olympic qualification, countries or regions that are ranked in the top eight in the 2021 Silesia World Relay and have not qualified in the 2019 Doha World Championships will be qualified for the Olympics.

  In addition, for athletes who have previously obtained Olympic qualifications, their qualifications will continue to be valid, but the Tokyo 2020 athletes will be determined independently by the Olympic Committee of each country or region.

  With the new qualifying period, the IAAF has made the following adjustments to the age standards for participation:

  Athletes born on or before 2001

  Athletes born in 2002 or 2003 (U20)

  Athletes born in 2004 and 2005 (U18)

  Athletes under 16 years of age, born in 2006 or later
