Borussia Dortmund players Jadon Sancho and Manuel Akanji have been fined undisclosed sums for violating Bundesliga hygiene protocol , the competition has confirmed.

Photos of both of them with a hairdresser and all without masks appeared on social media after players cut their hair at home, violating strict regulations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bundesiga argued that "visits by hairdressers at home obviously violate general standards of protection against hygiene infections and especially the medical and organizational concept." The competition added that players have five days to appeal the ruling.

Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc had already drawn criticism of his players' behavior on Thursday. "We talked to the players again in a very clear way and we made it very clear to them how they should behave," he said.

In total, up to six Dortmund players were visited by the same hairdresser . "Professional players need to cut their hair, that is clear, but they have to do it respecting hygiene measures"; declared the Bundesliga.
