Just over two months after Swedish sport was awarded a grant of SEK 500 million for quarter 2, it is now time for the next round. The sport itself has defined its support needs in a questionnaire to the Swedish Sports Federation. The sum is SEK 1260 million, distributed to 60 million for sports federations, 540 million to the elite sport which has lost all its audience, and 660 million to what is defined as sports.

"We have about the same needs as last time, and then the decision was 500 million, so I find it hard to imagine that we should request less now," says RF chairman Björn Eriksson to SVT Sport.

Exactly how much RF will demand is not clear yet, but a petition will soon be left to the government, hoping for a fast track to the decision. Since this is about money for Q3, the decision must be made before July 1st.

Question marks about the future

There are also question marks about the future need for support. What happens when Swedish sports make a careful restart this summer? When can the audience return? When can youth tournaments start playing again? The only certainty is that RF will continue to safeguard the base in Swedish sports when any new support money is to be distributed.

- The majority are the small associations, the ones that are the kit in the Swedish sports movement. These are the ones we have to protect, and then we have to do some when it comes to the elite as well, ”says Björn Eriksson.
