Sundsvall Dragons won several SM golds, Granlo made several years in SSL, as well as Sundsvall Saints in basketball and Sundsvall hockey women. When Gif Sundsvall retired from the Allsvenskan last fall, it meant a negative milestone for the sports city.

"Unfortunately they are remarkably bad, we note that it is the first time since 1956 that Sundsvall has no team in any of the highest leagues," says Andreas Lidén, sports reporter at Sundsvalls Tidning.

Common denominators for virtually all the crisis-prone Sundsvall clubs are major financial problems.

- There are repeated bankruptcies in several different big clubs, in basketball, in floorball. It was perhaps the curse of the abundance in the past, maybe a little too many teams that fought for the same crowd and the same money. Then we thought they would benefit the teams that survived when the competition got smaller, but it has not. It's been some really dark years for the big team sports.

Boden and Sandviken new 

In total, 39 municipalities meet the basic criterion that involves at least four elite teams / clubs in 28 different sports, of which a high-level team in one of the seven largest team sports.

Two municipalities are new this year. The stall is for the first time and Sandviken is back and competing again. In addition to Sundsvall, there are three additional municipalities that participated last year but this year does not meet the criteria. It is about Nässjö, Kungsbacka and Köping.
