At the meeting that the government held on Tuesday at noon with representatives of the first four classified teams in LaLiga, the absence of Sergio Ramos, the first captain of Real Madrid and always the team's main spokesman, surprised. On one side were the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, the president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), Irene Lozano, and Fernando Simón, the director of the Center for Coordination of Alerts and Emergencies. And on the other, Gerard Piqué (Barcelona), Dani Carvajal (Madrid), Koke Resurrección (Atlético de Madrid) and Asier Illarramendi (Real Sociedad).

The defender was one of the guests in the telematic conversation that the CSD used to congratulate the soccer players for their "exemplary" behavior during the confinement and the current reactivation process of LaLiga. The white captain and the Spanish team never refused to participate in the event, although they did express their rejection that it was not broadcast live. "Why can't it be public?" Ramos asked the organizers of the meeting.

As confirmed by this newspaper, the player's response was a resounding no, which made him reject the invitation. He did not want his image to be used in a format that he did not share. Nor did he want to participate in a campaign to whiten government action. "But he would not have done it with this one or with a different color. He does not understand that it could not be open, so that everyone could see it", they clarify from their surroundings such a striking absence.

From Moncloa they preferred that the talk be private, at the risk that some controversial topic could splash Illa, Simón or Lozano. The players' guild has been handling some questions for weeks regarding protocol, contagion or pandemic management. For example, why football was allowed with the public on the famous weekend of March 8 or the possibility of the stadiums opening on the resumption of the championship.

Although the Government insisted on the importance of the presence of the Madrid captain in the talk in which he intended to know first-hand the opinion of the footballers on the return of the championship and to resolve their health concerns, Ramos declined the invitation, arguing that that it should be open and direct, since he does not want his image to be used by any political side.

Real Madrid always supported the player's decision and it was Carvajal, the second white captain, who attended the appointment with the Government.
