When Eusebio Unzué thought about dividing his leaders between the three Great Laps of the season, he put Enric Mas and Marc Soler on the table to go to the Giro. The good part was unique and undisputed leadership; the bad, the resignation of the Tour, the race with which every cyclist dreams. But, newcomer to the team, he twisted his nose and said that better than not, that he preferred to line up in the Tour and the Vuelta as planned. Soler, from the outset, also said no, but decided to accept the weekend that Unzué gave him to think about it and at the end, he reconsidered, why not, that it was going to be a great opportunity to debut as the only leader in a big one, and said yes.

"We have decided to distribute the apples in different baskets", comments Unzué in a press conference in which he gives the brushstrokes of what will be the Movistar season after this forced stoppage by the coronavirus. For the first time in three years, the telephone squad deals game and renounces tricephaly . Perhaps Unzué thought that, if it did not work with Landa, Quintana and Valverde, it would not do it with Mas and Soler together with the 'Bala'. "We also give balance to the organizers", remarks the head of the Spanish squad, aware of the fragility that cycling is facing due to the foreseeable sponsorship crisis.

The initial idea, said remains, was for the three riders to coincide on the Tour and perhaps also on the Vuelta. Now the plans change completely. In the case of Soler, but also in that of Valverde. The former world champion had set himself the almost unique objective of crowning himself Olympic champion in Tokyo this 2020, but ... And now, look at the World Cup. "It is a week after the Tour, as usually happens with the Clásica de San Sebastián, which I am usually good at. Tour, World Cup and Liege are linked and I think I will do all three," explains Valverde, who as always is full of desire and ambition .

The one-day classics, with the exception of a few exceptions such as Liege-Bastogne-Liege, will remain for the group of young people who have arrived at Movistar this season. The blanket does not come to cover everything. A priori, the three leaders will only coincide on the restart. Mas, Soler and Valverde will line up together in the Vuelta a Burgos , starting on July 28, and later also in Dauphiné. Alone, Soler will go to Tirreno to continue preparing the Giro while the Tour is disputed.
