The Lebanese Football Association has officially canceled all its competitions for the 2019-2020 season due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus, in a brief statement posted on its official page on Facebook.

The decision came after a session held by the Federation's Executive Committee chaired by Hashem Haider, the first in nearly three months because of the "Covid-19" pandemic.

"The Executive Committee of the Lebanese Football Association held a meeting at the Federation's headquarters headed by Mr. Hashem Haider and decided to cancel the league for the 2019-2020 season with all its effects, and ideas for the return of football activity in Lebanon were discussed," the association said in the statement.

He continued, "The cancellation includes the first, second, third, fourth and fifth tournaments in addition to the Lebanon Cup championship and all the Futsal Championship tournaments and their effects."

Al-Ittihad revealed that the date of the start of the new season and the mechanism of establishing the league were studied "as a comprehensive concept was developed after a series of remote meetings during the past two months." Al-Ittihad mortgaged the date of the start of the new season, with what is issued by the Lebanese government in this regard.

The Lebanese League stopped after the third stage because of the protests that have witnessed large areas since last October 17, against the backdrop of economic, financial and social conditions.

The crisis, which included restricting the movement of funds and withdrawals, especially in the US dollar, reflected a negative impact on the sports sector in general and football in particular, amid calls from some clubs to cancel the tournament or amend its system.

The Lebanese Football Association decided early this year to cancel the results of the matches held this season in various competitions, and approved a new optional formula to relaunch the local championship, but it did not see the light due to the opposition of some clubs, and then with the authorities imposing public mobilization to contain the spread of the "Covid-" virus - 19 ".

On the sixth of last March, the Lebanese Ministry of Youth and Sports called for the suspension of all sporting activities as a precaution, and the country continues to apply the state of public mobilization to this day, and has not yet allowed the opening of sports fields for all games despite the partial opening of some commercial sectors.
