“The government's much-needed crisis package of SEK 500 million will not come close to covering the major financial consequences of the corona crisis for Swedish sport. More and more indicates that in June we need to return to the government for further support even for July and onwards. The restrictions from the government and the Public Health Authority are necessary, but tear very deep wounds in the economy of the popular movement, ”said RF's chairman Björn Eriksson in a press release.

RF refers to a new study in which 3,000 of Sweden's 19,000 sports associations have calculated the economic consequences of the corona crisis. The missing revenue from canceled events amounts to almost SEK 850 million, according to the survey.

“There are tens of thousands of events that have been canceled. Everything from international competitions at the highest elite level to the small election celebration which is and has been a decisive income for the small association for decades, ”says Björn Eriksson.
