The swimming star talked about her existence in SVT's Sports Mirror during Sunday. While Sjöström can train under normal circumstances, somewhat less in quantity, with open swimming pools, many of her competitors have a completely different everyday life.

- Most of my competitors have not had the opportunity to swim. From that point of view, I am glad that the Olympics are postponed because everyone should have the opportunity to prepare in the best way. They would not have had that if the Olympics had already taken place this summer, says Sjöström.

No one has experienced anything similar to the ongoing corona pandemic.

"It's the biggest challenge I've gone through"

- It's the biggest challenge I've ever had to go through. And that's an even bigger challenge for those athletes who couldn't walk to their halls and workouts, which has to be incredibly tough.

Several athletes around the world have testified about the effects of corona.

- I have several close relatives affected by corona. They have had very mixed symptoms, some have said it is no worse than a common cold, while others have said that it has been the worst they have been with in their entire life. And these are young athletes of my age. Everything is incredibly unreal. I have barely been able to digest what is happening right now.

Sjöström's career: Very many years left

Sjöström is 26 years old and a veteran with twelve years active at the highest level. She sees many good years ahead of her.

- I saw quite a few years after the Tokyo Olympics, a lot of years. I have a lot of fun with what I do and love to work out. The reflection that I have made now without competitions is that I enjoy the everyday life I have. It is 99 percent training and one percent competition, ”Sjöström concludes.
