Spanish footballers could start undergoing coronavirus screening tests on April 28, with a view to a possible resumption of training and competitions, a source familiar with the matter told AFP on Thursday. The Spanish championship "is working with the medical services to start the tests on 28 (April)," said the source.

These tests will give an overview of the current situation in Spanish football, as part of the League's desire to resume training soon under conditions of maximum safety for the players.

Back to training from May 4?

Earlier in the day, Rafael Ramos, president of the Spanish Association of Doctors for Football Teams, also said on Cope radio that "the idea, according to La Liga, is that tests be carried out on 28 and April 29 ". Spanish football has been at a standstill since March 12, but still hopes to be able to finish the season when there are still eleven league days to go.

On Monday, LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced an agreement to gradually resume training. According to the Spanish press, a first return to the clubs could be envisaged for May 4, before a possible resumption of competitions in late May or early June. "We are considering different recovery scenarios, from May 28-29, June 6-7 or June 28," the president of the Spanish League, Javier Tebas, told foreign press.

But for the moment, everything remains suspended to the decision of the health authorities, warned both the football officials and the Spanish government. "Everything will depend (on the Ministry) of Health (...) It is Health that will determine the path to follow," said Minister of Culture and Sports, José Manuel Uribes, on Wednesday. Spain is one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus epidemic, with 22,157 deaths and 213,024 people infected with the disease, according to the latest report published on Thursday.
