The eight teams in the country's high-scoring team only played three games before the corona pandemic in March put a stop to further play. The Turkmenistan Football Association followed the WHO recommendations and paused the league.
But President Gurbanguly Berdymuchamedov has officially toned down the danger and, according to the Press Freedom Organization Reporters Without Borders, the authoritarian regime in the country has since banned the very word corona.
Turkmenistan has no officially confirmed cases of coronary infection.
