The postponement of the Tour de France was made inevitable following the intervention of President Macron on Monday evening, prohibiting any public gathering at best until mid-July due to the coronavirus pandemic. AFP was unable to join Amaury sport organization (ASO), organizer of the event on Tuesday evening, but the information was confirmed by France Télévisions, the usual broadcaster of the event.

If confirmed, the postponement of the Tour de France should lead to other changes to the calendar. According to the newspaper, the Tour would scrupulously follow the course initially planned during the three weeks of racing. A decision which should result in a postponement of the Tour of Spain, also owned by ASO, which should start in mid-August.
