Due to the corona pandemic, Fifa has issued new guidelines requesting that all player contracts that would have expired on June 30, 2020 be extended until the respective club's season has ended.

- It is too early to say how it will work, but I think it is important to understand that this is not so much about law at the moment but probably more about volunteering, says Martin Klette.

Martin Klette points out that Fifa's message can rather be seen as guidelines.

- Right now, this must be seen as an invitation and not a mandatory rule. Then one has to ask what Fifa's guidelines mean legally. If Fifa were to adopt a mandatory rule and, above all, if any individual club and player did not agree to resolve the problems caused by the corona pandemic on a voluntary basis. It is only then that things are put at their forefront, says Martin Klette to SVT Sport.

Martin Klette believes that the biggest obstacle could be clubs already recruiting players from June 30.

- I think the key in this is if the clubs agree that the players whose contract would end in one place and start in the next place. If the new club somehow accepts this solution then I think a lot has been won. If the new clubs do not do it, but there will be discussion about whether the player should be allowed to play in his old club then I think there can be problems in many quarters and edges, says Martin Klette to SVT Sport.
