The mayor (LR) of Reims Arnaud Robinet said he was warned this Sunday of the suicide of Dr Gonzalez by the sub-prefect of the Marne. The latter "also told me that Doctor Gonzalez had left a letter in which he mentioned having tested positive for Covid-19", he continued, confirming information from the Parisian . A medical source confirmed the existence of the letter, adding that Dr. Gonzalez appeared "in good shape two days ago".
“I am shocked and moved by his disappearance because he is someone I have known for years […] Beyond the doctor at the Stade de Reims, he was the doctor of many Rémois and he was known for his human qualities and professional. He will be missed by the football family and the Rémois who rubbed shoulders with him, ”added Mr. Robinet.

The president of the Stade de Reims, Jean-Pierre Caillot, said he was "stunned" by the news. "This pandemic is affecting the Stade de Reims in the heart, it is a personality from Reims and a great sports professional who has left us," he said in the club press release.
