Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has said that Liverpool deserves to be crowned the Premier League title and that it would be unfair for the German coach Juergen Klopp's team to not complete the rest of the season’s matches due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.

Because of the spread of infection, season matches were stopped while the League League said the date for the resumption of activity remained "under constant review".

Only Liverpool, in top position, need just six points from nine games remaining to secure the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years.

Liverpool are 25 points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, its closest follower.

"Some people suggest that the title be awarded to Liverpool and in all honesty it deserves to be crowned, given the way he played, no one will be able to catch up with him, and given the way he played in the matches And given the performance that he did, and given the difference between him and the competitors now, he deservedly deserved the title this season.

Amid speculation that the season would be cut or canceled, the league stressed that the goal remains to complete all domestic league and cup competitions.

"But any return to the competitions will only take place with the full support of the government and the approval of the medical authorities," she added in a statement.

Berbatov, who also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, said he did not know what the right decision would be for completing the season, adding that "any decision taken will not be widely accepted by the public."

In 2010, Berbatov became the first United player to score a hat-trick in the net of his biggest opponent, Liverpool in 64 years, when the homeowners won the Old Trafford 3-2.

"The situation is very strange. It would be unfair to cancel the season for him (Liverpool) and this will be a big disappointment for him," Berbatov said.
