FIFA, the former Iraqi international, appointed Iyad Bunyan as the head of the Interim Authority for the Management of the Iraqi Football Association, after the resignation of the former federation’s board of directors, after administrative violations committed by some of its members. The mission of the new body continues for six months, in preparation for the holding of new elections, leading to the formation of the Executive Office of the Iraqi soccer for the next four years.

This came in the words of the person in charge of managing the Iraqi Football Association, Ahmed Abbas, who stated in a press statement that his administration received a letter from "FIFA", stating that the new committee includes Iyad Bunyan as president, provided that his deputy, Dr. Shamil Kamel, includes membership from both Dr. Ahmed Ali, Dr. Asaad Lazim, and Dr. Rafid Abdel Amir, as well as members of the Interim Authority.

The Board of Directors of the former Iraqi Football Association had resigned due to a deep disagreement with the former international player Adnan Darlan, whereby Darlan would waive his claims before the courts against the Iraqi Football Association.
