The message was inevitable.

It was never relevant to move the tournament to later in the year. Grass tennis must be played during the summer.

Wimbledon has been played every year since its inception in 1877, except during World War I and World War II.

Unclear what happens to the grass season

Wimbledon is the second of this year's four Grand Slam tournaments affected by the corona pandemic after the French Championships. But Paris organizers chose a different path and have moved the event to the end of September and early October, just two weeks after the US Open in New York was completed.

All tennis on the men's ATP and WTA tours is suspended until June 7.

Wimbledon should have been played between June 29 and July 12. It is still unclear what will happen to other grass tournaments, which are traditionally played as a recharge for this year's most prestigious events.
