Virtual reality presentations are increasing due to the containment decided to fight against the coronavirus. In his chronic innovation on Wednesday, Anicet Mbida tells about this phenomenon that will democratize in the future, confinement or not.

With confinement and travel restrictions, the world of events is completely at a standstill. But rather than canceling or postponing events, we are now starting to organize them in virtual reality.

There have already been quite a few conferences or product launches broadcast live on the internet. But there, it goes further: we will no longer remain passive in front of our screen. We will be able to move, manipulate objects, look at them from all angles and even interact with other participants.

For this to work, obviously, you will first have to recreate your event virtually in 3D. Then there will be a bit of logistics, since you have to send a virtual reality headset to all participants (and don't forget to collect it). But afterwards, everyone can connect from home and participate almost as if they were physically on site.

Are there already demonstrations that took place in virtual reality?

Yes, fashion shows and, a few days ago, the pinnacle of innovation from Japanese Asics. But one could also imagine a fully virtual auto show. It should be known that the manufacturers spend fortunes to create a stand, to move the cars and their teams. In some cases, it could be cheaper to go virtual.

The main problem is that you can't really touch the products or try them. It is rather demos that you can watch from all angles. Besides, I don't know if you've ever tried a virtual reality headset. Sometimes it gets seasick and it's not very convenient for taking notes.

But in a world where social distancing has become the norm, we could see this type of manifestation multiply. Who knows, this could breathe new life into the event.
