The new version of Microsoft Office 365 will incorporate a plagiarism detector which could be of great service to students. But not really to teachers, says Anicet Mbida, Tuesday, in his chronicle innovation.

We knew the spell checker, the grammar checker. A new tool is coming to word processors: the plagiarism detector. And you think, Anicet Mbida, that should appeal to students.

Even more right now, since all homework and dissertations are done at a distance. It is even a blow for the teachers. The plagiarism detector, until now, was their prerogative. That made it possible to spot immediately those who were content to copy / paste on the Internet. Except that the function will be integrated into Word. It will even be coupled with a tool that automatically rephrases the sentences. It will therefore be even easier to take on someone else's ideas or text. It does not only concern students).

Does that mean that a new version of Word is coming, right?

Yes, even a new version of the Office 365 suite which will now be called Microsoft 365. There are a lot of new features: Excel, the spreadsheet, will be able to connect directly to our bank and import the statements to make statistics. Powerpoint will integrate a coach to make presentations less boring…

But what struck me the most were the new writing tools. Completely revised grammar checker, detection of repetitions, jargon, language bias ... For example, expressions that could hurt or when you don't feminize certain words. Besides, he is no longer content to point out the problem, he simply suggests a replacement phase.

The announcement took place Monday evening. For the moment, it only exists in English. But we can't wait to see what it looks like in French, especially the new grammar checker. Because so far, it has not really stood out for its reliability.
