Ajax Amsterdam terminated the contract of Abdelhak Nouri, who suffered a brain injury in July 2017 after a heart attack during a friendly match, reports the Dutch daily De Telegraaf .

According to the newspaper, the club made this decision because of a clause in Nouri's contract, which provided for its automatic extension on the same conditions from July 1, 2020.

The club recognizes its responsibilities

Former great hope of the Amsterdam club, Abdelhak Nouri, 22, has been in a vegetative state for almost three years. The midfielder, nicknamed "Appie", had suddenly collapsed during a preparation match between Ajax Amsterdam and Werder Bremen, in Austria.

The young man's family seized the Federation's arbitration commission in June 2018, claiming compensation from the club to pay for his care for life. Shortly afterwards, the Ajaccides agreed to assume full responsibility for the player's failed care after the player's accident and apologized to Nouri's relatives. Nouri's family is still in negotiations with Ajax in order to reach a financial arrangement.
