The fact that it is Swedish ladies with skis on their feet that pleases the Winter Studio's audience weekend after weekend is nothing new. But the dominance is as total as this year is exceptional. SVT's survey of how much prize money the various ski swedes have drawn into their respective cups shows that the first eight, and a total of 17 out of 20 on the list, are ladies.
- It's a bit cool, I think as a girl. I think you recognize more in women's sports and when you see other Swedish girls succeed you are extra inspired by the success of others, and then it is born more success, says Stina Nilsson.
Those who have succeeded well in their overall cup also rank high on this list. The shooting star Linn Svahn won the sprint cup and is the national team rider who withdrew the most with just over SEK 530,000 in prize money. Sandra Näslund who won the ski race's World Cup is four with just over SEK 700,000 and Britta Johansson Norgren who won the Ski Classics is also this year the Swedish cross-country skier who raised the most prize money during the winter, SEK 858,400.
The fact that the prize money is higher in alpine and biathlon than other ski sports is reflected in the list. Anna Swenn Larsson is third on the list despite only a handful of top results.
Ettan Hanna Öberg has another seven national teammates in the top 20, including two of three gentlemen on the list, Sebastian Samuelsson and Jesper Nelin. Perhaps most unexpected is that Elisabeth Högberg who barely ran the World Cup this winter has withdrawn close to SEK 275,000, but six wins in the IBU Cup of 3000 euros each give results on the account.
The huge female dominance is symbolized mainly in cross-country skiing. A total of seven national team ladies as well as long-distance skiers Norgren and Korsgren are in the top 20 - but not a single Swedish rider.
