The Formula One season is still postponed due to the ongoing corona pandemic and no one knows when the next race will be conducted.

An excellent opportunity to kill some dead time and let the drivers of the Red Bull team get infected, Helmut Marko thought, and suggested that everyone - both seniors and juniors - should gather at a preparatory camp.

- They are all strong and young men with good health. That way, they would be well prepared when everything starts up again, says the stable's 76-year-old advisor to the Austrian television channel ORF, according to the BBC.

Eight missed races

However, the idea did not give the hearing that Marko had hoped for.

- Let me put it this way: It has not been well received, he says.

The plan was to organize the camp so that the drivers would be in the best possible physical shape once the F1 season starts. So far, eight races have been suspended or postponed and it is far from certain that the next races in Canada, France, Austria and the UK, in June and July, will be possible.

May have covid-19

F1 boss Chase Carey has stated a goal to start the racing season during the summer and catch up with so many races it runs out of a total of 22.

Helmut Marko:

- If there is a season with 15-18 race then it will be very tough. Then there is no way to improve the fitness during the season. So it would be ideal to use the time for it now.

He himself thinks that he has already been affected by the corona virus, but since the access to tests in his home country Austria is, just as in Sweden, he can not be sure.

- I had what I thought was a severe cold and the symptoms matched the corona. It was something I've never had so intensely before, says Marko.
