The scandal even affects two former Olympic champions. Four former Russian athletes are accused of doping on the basis of evidence contained in the McLaren report, the Athletics Integrity Unit (IAU) said on Friday. The 2008 Olympic high jump champion Andrey Silnov, the 2012 Olympic 400m hurdle champion Natalia Antyukh, the 2007 2007 1,500m vice world champion Yelena Soboleva and the hammer thrower Oksana Kondratyeva will therefore be judged first proceedings by the Sports Arbitral Tribunal (CAS).

A Moscow laboratory at the heart of the scandal

The report by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren, commissioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, had highlighted in 2016 an institutionalized doping system in Russia, including the laundering of more than 500 positive controls of the Moscow laboratory, at the heart of the scandal.

Natalia Antyukh has already been deprived on the 4x400 m relay of three world medals (bronze in 2009 and 2011, gold in 2013) and an Olympic medal (silver in 2012) due to disqualifications for doping of ex-teammates . Andrey Silnov had become vice-president of the Russian federation after his career and ran for president in 2016. Yelena Soboleva has already been deprived of her world silver medal obtained in 1,500 m for doping.
