Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, has donated 1 million euros ($ 1.08 million) to fight the new Corona virus.
"Leo Messi makes a donation to fight Coved-19. Thank you for your commitment and support for Leo," a hospital in Barcelona said on Twitter (Twitter) on Wednesday.
Spanish press reports stated that the amount Messi donated will be divided between the Catalan city hospital and several other hospitals in Argentina.
This donation will contribute to the purchase of equipment such as gloves, masks and respirators.
It was also reported that Manchester City coach Josep Guardiola donated 1 million euros to the Faculty of Medicine in Barcelona on Tuesday.
It is noteworthy that the Catalonia region, where Messi currently lives, has recorded 9379 cases of Corona virus and 516 deaths so far.
