The Manchester derby still tipped in favor of the Red Devils, Sunday, March 8, in the Premier League. Manchester United won Old Trafford against Manchester City (2-0) thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay. It has been ten years since United won two league games in the same season against City.

Unless there is a big surprise, Manchester City will finish again this season ahead of Manchester United in the league. And the Skyblues remain on two consecutive Premier League titles, three League Cup victories (the last of which dates back to March 1), and are well positioned to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, while on the d 'United, we stay on two white seasons and we are "only" qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

But between these two rival clubs in the county of Greater Manchester, each meeting is an event. If the two teams have not boxed at the same level for several seasons, the derby remains a separate game. And in this 2019-2020 season, the scales tip in favor of Manchester United. On Sunday March 8, the Red Devils defeated Manchester City in the 29th day of the Premier League (2-0).

Martial strikes again and imitates Ronaldo ...

Still deprived of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford in particular, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lined up Daniel James and Anthony Martial from the start. And as in the match of the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, the Frenchman distinguished himself by finding the net. Cleverly served by Bruno Fernandes on a quick free kick, the ex-Monegasque defeated Ederson with a volley in the area (30th). The Brazilian goalkeeper was not imperial on this action.

With a goal scored in the two domestic games against City, Anthony Martial brings back old memories to the fans of the Red Devils. The last man to score in two games against Manchester City was ... Cristiano Ronaldo. A performance that dates back to the 2006-2007 season.

... and Ederson still has a hole

Confronted with the absence of his injured playing master Kevin De Bruyne, the outgoing English champion never seemed able to turn the situation around. Worse, he drank the chalice to the dregs when, in overtime, Ederson made a huge mistake. The goalkeeper, already not very bright at the start of the score, buried the Skyblues' last hopes by throwing a ball in the right hand on Scott McTominay. The Scot, a pure product of the Red Devils school, did not ask for that much. At more than 35 meters from the cage, he adjusted his shot and scored in the empty goal (90 + 6th).

In the standings, Manchester City remains 2nd with 57 points, far behind Liverpool (82 points), while Manchester United climbs to 5th place with 45 points. But for the Cityzens, times are tough. It is already their seventh defeat conceded this season in the Premier League, more than in the last two seasons combined (two defeats in 2017-2018 and four defeats in 2018-2019). And in its local rivalry with United, City grimaces: it is the first time since the 2009-2010 season that the Red Devils - then coached by Sir Alex Ferguson - have won the two league matches. Lulled by these victories and good memories, MU supporters can savor this little success. This season at least, they have dominated their rivals.
