Finally ... After months of snubbing him like a plague victim for dark reasons that reason ignores, Frank Lampard gave in to popular pressure and offered Olivier Giroud a first tenure in the Premier League in 2019. Result, a (pretty) goal goal at the Spurs on Saturday, a victory for the Blues and an incredible activity which earned him the title of " Man of the match ".

After a real false start during the winter transfer window, Olivier Giroud is about to overturn the table at the Blues and do what he does best since he appeared on this earth: to close the mouths of his haste -club. So, to celebrate the comeback of the favorite player of your favorite coach, here are five figures that tell the funny season of the former Montpellier.

  • Giroud, more loved in Blue than in Blues

Given the ordeal of the French this season on the side of his prison in London, the following statistics are not necessarily surprising, but it says a lot about his difference in treatment in club and team of France. From the start of 2019 and until today, Olivier Giroud has obtained more playing time in Blue than in Blue. 439 minutes with papa Deschamps against 375 minutes with Sarri and his successor the ugly little Lampard. Suffice to say that if he manages to reverse the trend with Chelsea in the second half of the season - and it starts Tuesday evening against Bayern - Giroud will have the keys to the barracks (and the doubles with) on the front of the attack tricolor at Euro.

  • It has a better ratio than Benzema

We can say what we want, Giroud scores every time he is on the field. Well, it's a little more true in the French team than with Chelsea, but in the end its ratio this season is completely honorable. A goal every 135 minutes (6 goals in 814 minutes) in all competitions, it's as good as Wissam Ben Yedder - who rolls in Ligue 1 - and much better than Antoine Griezmann. And Karim Benzema? One goal every 149 minutes. Influence on the game? Olivier leaves that to the others.

  • The masterpiece against Tottenham

Giroud in 2020, it's Ballon d'Or limit: everything it does is perfect. So good, that's for sure, La Gire has only played one game since Christmas Eve, but what a match! Holder against Tottenham in the Premier League last Saturday, the French striker returned a colossal stat sheet: a (magnificent) goal, four shots, six aerial duels won out of nine, three balls recovered and a rescue. In short, as usual, he went to the oven, the mill and even sold the baguette at the counter. Enough to remember how useful he is at playing football.

Olivier Giroud's game by numbers vs. Spurs:

40 keys
15 contested duels
6/9 aerial duels won
4 shots
3 recoveries
3 keys in the opp. box
2 shots on target
1 interception
1 clearance
1 goal

  • Best passer in the Champions League

Stronger than the Xavi and Iniesta of the great era combined. By zooming in on Olivier Giroud's statistics this season, we realized that the guy had a record simply amazing in the Champions League. With 100% of successful passes on the European scene, the French striker is none other than the most skilful man of his feet in ball transmissions. Well, ok, Giroud has only played 17 minutes this season in C1, so what?

  • We put on our pants that he will hold against Germany at the Euro

This is the conclusion of these unlikely figures, and it is probably the most important for us. We do not pretend to be Didier Deschamps, but it is hard to see how Giroud could not hold against Germany in the first Euro game, except in an accident. His match against Tottenham (and that against Bayern tonight) will be enough to be called by DD for the friendly in late March. And these games with the Blues will be enough to be in the 23 in May, even without seeing too much ground with Chelsea by then. Because DD knows the importance of Giroud, but also because Giroud has again proven that he did not need 150 games to make himself useful and decisive.

Meet on June 16 to check this out, but we're ready to put on our pants that he'll be there.
