The Tunisian Football Federation announced Thursday its desire to host the one-time African Champions League final for the first time in the history of the tournament.

The Tunisian Federation said in a statement that it had sent a letter to the African Union (CAF) confirming its "desire and ability" to organize the final match for the current season's edition, which will be held on May 29.

After the chaos in last season's final between Esperance and Moroccan Waddad due to the lack of use of assisted video referee technology (var) in the return leg in the Tunisian capital, Kef decided to hold the final of one match on a stadium predetermined in the style of the Champions League.

The Tunisian Federation added, "Following the advice of the African Union concerning the organization of the Champions League final 2020, and after confirming the response of the League (the Tunisian Union) and the Tunisian public authorities to all the conditions of the final organization, the Tunisian Football Federation contacted the African Union confirming its desire and ability to embrace this (match ).

In last year's final, Moroccan Wydad players left the stadium in protest at an arbitration award and the failure to use the assistant video referee system that was used in the first leg in Morocco, but was not ready to work in the second leg at Rades.

After the match was interrupted for about two hours, Esperance was awarded the landowner cup and medals of the winning team, but he was asked to return it after the Executive Committee in El Kef decided to return the match to a neutral stadium due to the presence of "unsafe conditions".

After appeals from both clubs, the sports arbitration court ruled that the CAF Executive Committee "had no authority" to return the final and reversed the decision.

El Kef referred the case to the Disciplinary Committee, which approved Esperance's victory in the title, with Wydad fined $ 65,000. Wydad appealed the decision, saying it was unjust, but the Grievance Committee rejected the Moroccan club's appeal last September and supported the disciplinary committee’s decision to consider Esperance a winner of the title.

Esperance, winning the title in the past two seasons, is preparing to face Egypt's Zamalek in the quarter-finals while the coastal star meets Wydad.
