Golberg: "Don't hope this is a new standard for sprinting"

2020-02-18T21:00:11.409Z

Pål Golberg finished fourth in the sprint finals but was afterwards critical of the competition form up the ski slope in Åre. - It was certainly fun for the audience but we should not move so far from what we are really doing. I feel we are a bit of a guinea pig, he tells SVT Sport.

Today's stage in the Ski Tour offered a controversial sprint up the alpine ski slope in Åre - an extreme competition that became a tough challenge for the riders.

The Norwegian, Pål Golberg, who now leads the tour in total before the Russian Alexander Bolshunov, was critical afterwards despite his fourth place.

- It is certainly fun to watch, but it is far from what we are really doing. Johannes (Hösflot Kläbo) still wins, and in that way it is about the same result anyway. But I do not hope that this is a new standard for sprinting, Golberg tells SVT Sport.

You don't want to see any more of these competitions in the World Cup?

- No, then I have to change the training. It was definitely fun for the audience but we should not move so far from what we are really doing. I feel we are a bit of a guinea pig. Is this the way to go I think it's stupid.
