The president of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, decided to keep Eric Abidal as technical secretary of the first team, after the meeting he had with him for approximately two hours. According to sources from the Barca entity, the meeting, in which the executive director of Barcelona, carscar Grau also participated, served to solve misunderstandings and reduce the tension between Abidal and the star of the team, Leo Messi, following statements from the first to the Sport newspaper.

In an interview on Tuesday, the technical secretary of Barcelona revealed that "many players were not satisfied or worked hard" with the former coach, Ernesto Valverde. These statements did not sit well with Messi, who accused Abidal of dirtying the entire team at not giving names and not taking responsibility for the sports field, which gave way to all kinds of speculation about the dismissal of the former Barca defense.

After that disagreement, Bartomeu already contacted both on Wednesday to know his versions of the events and placate the spirits. The president of the Catalan club spent a large part of the day in Brussels to represent Barça during a visit to the European Parliament in which the Catalan capital was promoted.

Upon his return to Barcelona, he met with Abidal and Grau, not only to discuss the delicate situation in which they had left their technical secretary, but also to agree on the steps that the club will follow with the long-term injury of Ousmane Dembélé and other matters related to the sports future of the entity, as reported by the same sources.

Finally, Abidal will remain in office and tomorrow he will accompany Bilbao to the defender Samuel Umtiti, who will not be able to travel with the team to play against the Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey having to appear in a trial in the morning.

Bartomeu will also not travel to the capital of Biscay with the Barça expedition, since he has to meet his work commitments in the morning, although he will be in San Mamés to witness live the quarterfinal match of the Copa del Rey
