The 22-year-old German, ranked seventh in the world, was squeezed in the beginning of the match and lost the first set against the experienced Wawrinka, winner of the Australian Open 2014 and currently ranked number 15 in the world, with 1-6. It was the first set that Zverev lost so far in the tournament in Melbourne.

But Zverev got up, took control, broke Wawrinka's serve five times and eventually wrote the victory numbers to 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
