  • Stade Rennais qualified for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France Tuesday evening after an epic match in Angers, won 5-4 by the Bretons.
  • The reds and blacks could count on a sumptuous goal from Jérémy Gélin, his first pro.
  • The 22-year-old was announced on departure for this winter transfer window, but the many injured in the Rennes workforce convinced the Rennes leaders to keep him.

How touched it was. Tuesday evening, Jérémy Gélin put in the way to sign his first goal in red and black. We were playing the 115th minute of a crazy match between SCO Angers and Stade Rennais (4-5) when his instant recovery, as sumptuous as delicate, came to shower the Raymond-Kopa stadium, leaving Danijel Petkovic without reaction. A decisive goal which offers a ticket for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France to his team, defending champion. "This perfect gesture which crucifies us", will even greet Angers coach Stéphane Moulin. A gesture that comes above all to end a crazy week for Jérémy Gélin.

He was one of the players announced at the start. Barred by competition in central defense and in the midfield, the versatile native of Quimper had to leave on loan for this very calm winter transfer window on the Rennes side. Amiens was interested in offering him playing time and the affair seemed to be well under way. It was before the match in Nice and the combined injuries of the two defenders Jérémy Morel and Gerzino Nyamsi. Asked at a press conference on Monday, his coach Julien Stéphan had promised. "Yes Jérémy will stay". We understand better why.

In Angers on Tuesday (110 '), Jérémy Gélin scored the first goal of his professional career with Stade Rennais. He will have waited 5570 minutes of play to discover the joy of the scorer. And what a goal! #SCOSRFC https://t.co/kUnqV6xC3c

According to the very well-informed Rouge Mémoire site, Jérémy Gélin will have played 5,570 minutes before scoring his first pro goal. He will remember it and the supporters too. Because from the height of 22, the defender already has solid experience with pros. During the 2017-2018 season, Sabri Lamouchi installed him as an indisputable holder in central defense alongside Joris Gnagnon. Gélin had finished the season with twenty consecutive starts in Ligue 1, helping to qualify the club for the Europa League.

Caviar against PSG

Less used by Julien Stéphan, in particular due to the arrival of Damien Da Silva and Jérémy Morel, the central defender reminded his coach ô how useful he could be for his training club. A discreet and applied player, Jérémy Gélin has a nice touch of the ball which allowed him to offer a 60-meter caviar to Adrien Hunou during a victory at the Parc des Princes against PSG.

Author of a good start to Nice on Friday, Jérémy Gélin will not go to the winter transfer window. Julien Stéphan confirmed it this morning at a press conference after the injury to Nyamsi #srfc #mercatosrfc. The defender and midfielder was particularly coveted by Amiens. pic.twitter.com/j9OGi8HWfb

In the previous round, Stade Rennais had already seen one of its “olds” unlock their counter. Mocked for his lack of efficiency, the side Hamari Traore had planted a missile against Athéltico Marseille for his first goal in red and black. This is called "treating" its entrance.
