Leicester and Aston Villa made it to the first league cup semi-final and played 1-1 at King Power Stadium.

Aston Villa, stationed in 17th place in the Premier League, shocked the Leicester top team. After half an hour, Villa was able to take the lead through Frederic Guilbert who crashed into a post and pushed the ball into volley. A goal that did not reflect the match picture as Leicester was the team that had led the game and been closest to a goal in terms of play.

Jamie Vardy, who turns 33 on Saturday, struggled hard in the first half and carried his team many times on the shoulders. But Villa were in the spot for a win and increased the pace even further with fast play and aggressive play against man.

Ezri Konsa was a hit from the stretch for his team when he crashed forward with a good nod.

Whirlwind from Nigeria

Leicester came out in the second half with new courage and took over the midfield but still found it difficult to create real dangers in the penalty area. Youri Tielemans played higher on the pitch and was a big reason why Brendan Rodgers's team came into the match.

In match minute 63, the second half's hottest chance came when 23-year-old James Maddison with a rocky shot forced Villa's Norwegian goalkeeper Örjan Nyland to a proper parade.

Leicester's Kelechi Iheanacho was substituted 20 minutes into the game. And the Nigerian whirlwind needed only a few minutes before he was introduced. Vardy took a wrong pass and played the 23-year-old who shot the ball high and precisely into the goal and it was acknowledged to 1-1.

Vardy himself got the chance to decide when he got off at high speed a shot that went just off Uuseland's right post. The crowd screamed hoarsely and many thought the home team took the lead. But that was not the case.

The second semi-final will be decided on January 28 at Villa Park.
