The Algarve Cup is one of the standing points in the football team's annual calendar but this year it is a new format that awaits Sweden and the other participants. Before that, the training tournament was played as a group game and then semi-finals. This year there will be a sharp situation directly when Sweden is placed against the World Cup quarterfinal opponent Germany in a quarterfinals.

- They are good opponents throughout the tournament and if we had encountered Germany in the first, second or third match does not matter. Now we know who we will be tamped against and can begin our work for this year's first international match. It will be a good start in 2020, says the associate captain Peter Gerhardsson on the football association's website.

Should Sweden lose, however, a "B-playoff" awaits when Sweden is faced with the losers between Denmark and Norway.

Game days in Portugal are March 4, 7 and 10/11. The final will be played on March 11.

The trophy for the Algarve Cup will be presented on 18 February.
