The Irishman has only gone one MMA match in the last three years. It was on October 6, 2018, when he lost the lightweight title match (70.3 kilos) against undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. A match that ended in scandal scenes when a big fight broke out after the match was over.

On January 18 in Las Vegas, McGregor, who has not won an MMA match since the fall of 2016, makes a comeback against American Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, 36.

"Cowboy" has gone 50 professional games in MMA (twice as many as McGregor) and has the UFC record for most matches (33), most wins (23), most finishes (16), most performance bonuses (18) and most defeats (20 ).

"Hope you have good places"

The questions for McGregor's comeback are many.

The biggest: Can he ever achieve the same status as the fall of 2016 when he was at the top and was world champion in two different weight classes at the same time?

- On January 1st, we cleared our last heavy sparring before heading to Vegas. I can honestly say he has never looked better than this. And I was very uncertain about that six months ago. Hope you have good places for this will be a real experience, writes star coach John Kavanagh on Twitter.

Ready to jump into the title match

A little later, on April 18 in New York, champion Nurmagomedov puts his belt on the game against American Tony Ferguson, who has won twelve straight games.

A match that has been booked four times before, but always stopped due to injuries.

McGregor says he is ready to jump in if that is the case this time as well.

- Probably something will happen again, and then I'm ready to go for a title match, he tells his own site The Mac Life.

McGregor's upcoming match against Cerrone will take place in welterweight (77.1 kilos) and will be decided on Sunday morning, January 19, Swedish time.
