It's 13:00. Then the European Football Association Uefa draws out which teams will meet in the first round of the Europa League.

For Malmö FF's part, the opportunities to avoid last year's nightmare scenario - when Premier League giant Chelsea fell on the Skåneklubbens lottery - look bright after the team victory was secured via a 1–0 victory against FC Copenhagen last week.

The first place means that the sky blue is seeded when the balls are to be drawn in Swiss Nyon - and thus cannot be set against heavy elephants such as Manchester United, Inter, Arsenal or Ajax.

Advantage as seeded

Instead, it is somewhere in the unseeded collection that we find Malmö's prospective opponents in the 16-finals - and it is not filled with the full-as-frightening club name, although few go as clear underdogs in a double meeting with MFF.

Among those who may be categorized as "affordable opponents" we find clubs such as Cypriot Apoel (with former Sundsvall striker Linus Hallenius in the team), Bulgarian Ludogorets (60th place on Uefa's club rankings, six before Malmö) and Romanian CFR Cluj (121st on ranking).

If we are talking about the worst possible outcome, it is likely Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk (on a regular basis with the Champions League and eliminated as third in this year's group play), Bayer Leverkusen (fighting in the upper half of the Bundesliga and became third in his CL group behind Juventus and Atlético Madrid) or Roma (classic Italian big club which is highly ranked by the unseen teams).

Rosenberg and Rösler gone

Regardless of what Malmö is opposed to, the Skåneklubben must primarily adapt to a reality without retired club icon Markus Rosenberg and find a replacement for German coach Uwe Rösler whose contract has been breached.

- It should be a better draw than the last. Then there are incredibly good teams in the Europa League nowadays. But if you beat FCK away and Dynamo Kiev at home you should have a good chance against most group fools, Rosenberg said after the win in Copenhagen.

The Europa League 16 finals will be played on February 20 and 27, 2020.
