New National Stadium celebrates completion December 15 at 12:02

Following the completion of the new national stadium, which will be the main stadium for next year's Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, a ceremony was held on the 15th.

Prime Minister Abe, Governor Koike of Tokyo, and architect Kengo Tsuji, who was involved in the design of the stadium, attended the Shunkuko ceremony held at the new national stadium completed at the end of last month.

First, Prime Minister Abe said, “I pray that a new era, a new sports base that was completed in the first year of the Heisei year, will mark the future of sports,” and when the button on the stage was pushed, A video celebrating completion was played on the large screen of the stadium.

After this, Governor Koike greeted, “It is a world-class stadium. We will continue to make preparations so that the Tokyo tournament will be a wonderful record and memorable one.”

The national stadium is characterized by a 60 meter long roof using wood on a 60,000 spectator seat that mixes five colors such as green and brown in a mosaic pattern. It is called the “Mori stadium” that is conscious of harmony.

An event will be held on the 21st of this month to show the completion to the general public, and on the New Year's Day next year, the final of the Soccer Emperor's Cup will be held as the first sports event.
