Visby Ladies got a tough start to the season in the basketball league. Before tonight's tough away match against the series manager Luleå Basket, Jumbon had not taken a single point. Earlier this week it also became clear that coach Eivind Möstl is quitting. The coach assignment was instead taken over by Anders Pettersson with support from Marie Söderberg.

There was no fun start to the coach assignment as Visby lost with a full 51-98 (36-47) against the series leader.

- We were not at all in the beginning and let in too many points. We did not do what we talked about in the defense. Then we come out in the second period and set up a zone that Luleå gets into trouble with, Visby Ladies Johanna Persson tells SVT Sport and continues:

- In the second period, I do not know what is happening. We lose energy and do nothing at all.

How to find energy after eight straight losses?

- Of course, it is very difficult, but we try every training together as a team to do good workouts. Unfortunately, we do better workouts than matches as it is now.

Veteran replaced

In the match, assistant Marie Söderberg was included in the team lineup as a player. Söderberg has previously played 30 straight seasons in the elite series and made close to 50 international matches. Her last match in the basketball league was the 2013-2014 season.

- We'll see what the coach does. I want to play against my daughter-in-law (Felicia Camara-Pontura). I'm ready to play, ”Marie Söderberg told SVT Sport after two periods.

- From being more assistant coach I will be more changed. I train with the team and am in decent shape.

Sjöberg oldest in basketball league

But there were no minutes for Maria Söderberg as she remained on the bench.

Lotta Sjöberg, who also played in the Visby Ladies, is the oldest player to have played in the basketball league. She was 49 years and 8 months when she made her final match.
