His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said that Abu Dhabi’s award for the leading destination for sports tourism in the world, within the closing ceremony of the twenty-sixth edition of the World Travel Awards 2019, confirms the high international standing of the capital worldwide.
His Highness gifted Abu Dhabi the winning of the International Award to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
In a press statement, His Highness affirmed that: Abu Dhabi has become a global sports platform, thanks to the wise visions of rational leadership, and has become a destination for champions, elite athletes, world stars and stakeholders in the international sports movement, in light of the model plans adopted by the rational Abu Dhabi government.
He added: The hosting of a large and varied group of international sporting activities did not come by chance, and Abu Dhabi did not gain the confidence of global sports federations and institutions from a vacuum, but came with planning and the vision of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council launched in 2015, to establish Abu Dhabi as the capital and global destination for sport, in light of the availability of a large group Among the factors and capabilities that support the achievement of achievements, in terms of infrastructure, the transportation network, the tourism sector, hotels, security and stability factors, luxury sports facilities, and entertainment factors.
He concluded by saying: We look forward to being the best model to continue bidding, for the first place for Abu Dhabi and the Emirates, in the areas of global competition on an ongoing basis.
It is noteworthy that, in the past years, Abu Dhabi has made a quantum leap in supporting the international sports movement, by hosting a large group of the most important diverse sporting events, among them: the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup 2017 and 2018, the Asian Cup 2019, the Special Olympics World Games 2019, the Abu Dhabi World Jujitsu Championship, a week Abu Dhabi Challenge (UFC 242), Emirates Tour, Abu Dhabi Championship (HSBC Golf), and Abu Dhabi International Triathlon Championship.
