A penalty shoot-out led Bahrain to qualify for the Gulf Cup final here on Thursday, after beating Iraq 5-3 in the semi-finals of the 24th edition of the tournament.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with the Iraqi team opening the scoring early through Muhannad Ali in the sixth minute, but Abdullah al-Hazza quickly equalized for Bahrain in the 14th minute.

The extra time did not change the result, forcing the two teams to play the penalty shootout that finally smiled for the Bahraini team, who dream of crowning the title for the first time in its history.

Bahrain struck a date in the final with the winner of the other semi-final between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which will be held later today.
