Svensson had no easy journey to the final spot. In the Swedish premiere he injured his knee and as late as yesterday it became clear that he would be in the sprint in Ruka.

Then he was the last rider to move on from the qualification and in the quarterfinals he had the margins on his side. Russian star Sergei Ustiugov was disbarred for starting a thief and Norwegian Norwegian Erik Valnes broke the stick. Svensson came second behind Kläbo in their quarterfinals.

The Swede then turned four in his semi-final, but reached the final on time.

There, he did not go far enough and came last in a final where Kläbo made his way up the hill in his special way and won by far.

- He's in his own division. There is no one who can go as fast as him. He is the world's best sprinter, says Blomquist.

Overall it was a successful men's competition from a Swedish point of view with three other Swedes, Johan Häggström, Teodor Peterson and Calle Halfvarsson, in the semi-finals.

- Really fun. Sick good season start to the World Cup, says Häggström to SVT Sport.
