28 years later, a Spaniard again won the European Circuit Order of Merit, now known as 'Race To Dubai'. His name: Jon Rahm. He has inscribed his name in the history of golf being the only Spaniard after Seve Ballesteros to get the win. The issue has even more merit because the calendar is much more limited when playing in both Europe and the United States.

It is Rahm's sixth victory on the European circuit, although he has only played 40 tournaments in his career. It has taken 15 less than Seve to reach this figure. In addition, it is his fourth triumph in a Rolex Series event, something that nobody has achieved in history. The triumph in Dubai will allow him to climb to third place in the world ranking.

"It gives me goosebumps to think about that. As a Spanish player, every time you join or have the opportunity to put your name on a list where there is only one name and that of Seve is quite impressive," admitted the Basque golfer before his conquest.

The last putt

Barrika started the last day as a true steamroller, sweeping the Earth Course field with five birdies in the first seven holes. Rahm reached the eighth hole with a wide margin in the lead, but two straight bogeys tensed his second round.

His top rival in the 'Race to Dubai', Tommy Fleetwood finished his tour as leader, with a spectacular -7 and forced Rahm to get a birdie in the last hole to certify the feat. The tension stretched to the last putt, about two meters, but Jon pocketed and burst with joy.

The victory, in addition, reports a check of three million dollars, the highest prize in the history of a golf competition, to which we must add the two million extra to win the 'Race to Dubai'.
