Thanks to two goals from Vivianne Miedema and a hit from Jill Roord, the women's team of Arsenal won 7-0 against Bristol City in the tournament for the Women's League Cup.
Roord made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, after captain Kim Little opened the score after half an hour.
In the second half, Little again scored a goal, this time from the penalty spot. Miedema then further increased the score with two hits. In the final phase, Jordan Nobbs and Jen Beattie determined the final score at 7-0.
In addition to Miedema and Roord, Daniëlle van de Donk also had a third Orange-international in the starting line-up at Arsenal. Roord and Van de Donk played the entire game, Miedema was replaced ten minutes before time.
With the big win, Arsenal took over the lead in Group B from Brighton. The tournament for the League Cup consists of four smaller competitions, which are organized on the basis of geography. The top two teams of each competition advance to the knockout phase.
With five final victories, Arsenal is the record holder in the cup tournament. Last season was lost in the final after penalties from Manchester City.
