LONDON (Reuters) - Harry Redknapp has backed Mauricio Pochettino to give Arsenal a chance to lead Arsenal despite the hostility between the two clubs.

On Tuesday, Tottenham announced the sacking of Pochettino after the team's poor results in the last period, while Spanish coach Unai Emery is in a difficult position with Arsenal after failing to lead the club to achieve positive results.

Redknamp said in a radio statement that Arsenal fans "can accept even Saddam Hussein (former Iraqi president) if he can achieve positive results for the team."

The former coach had suggested that the Cannon fans could overcome historical hostility with Tottenham and would accept Pochettino as coach if he could lead him to successive victories.

Redknapp confirmed that the sacking of Pochettino from Tottenham will push a number of coaches of the big clubs in England to prepare and care more for their posts, by working to achieve positive results.

Pochettino took over as coach of Tottenham in 2014 and led the team to the top of the Premier League. His best achievement was to reach the Champions League final last season, which he lost to Liverpool 2-1.
