The Blues will not even have the opportunity to be scared on the occasion of the reception of modest Moldova, on behalf of the playoffs of the Euro-2020. The French football team, which already had a foot and a half in the final phase of the next continental meeting, saw its ticket officially composted, since Iceland failed to win in Turkey (0- 0), Thursday, November 14th.
World champions in title, the Blues will be able to ambition to achieve the double World-Euro which they managed to register to their list of achievements between 1998 and 2000. By then, they will have first and foremost to get the first place of the group G of these playoffs, in order to hope to be donated in one of the first two hats. For now, the French are second, but with a small point behind Turkey, slowed by Iceland and one more game. Mathematically, the Blues have their destiny in their hands.
First place at all costs
The stakes are high, because by finishing second behind Turkey, France could be placed in the hats 3 or 4, which would augur a potentially complicated group. The French radio RTL, which tried to compose the worst "group of the death" possible, evokes for example a hen which could unite France, Germany, Spain and Portugal. Highly hypothetical for now, but not really reassuring at two weeks of the draw, scheduled on November 30 in Bucharest (Romania).
The Euro-2020, the second edition of the 24-team tournament, will run from 12 June to 12 July in 12 cities in 12 European countries. An exceptional feature wanted by UEFA to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its major competition of national selections.
