The European Championship in curling has been played since 1975, and Sweden has been very successful on both the men's and women's side. The Swedish women's national team leads the medal league by far with a total of 20 European gold in history. On the men's side it has become eleven European gold, only Scotland has taken more.

The European Championships in Helsingborg 2019 will be the fifth European Championship on Swedish soil and the first since 2012.

- Funny that the sport comes here to Sweden, the home plan obviously gives a gold edge to the championship. I think it can be a really wonderful sporting experience, says SVT's expert commentator Eva Lund.

At the European Championships in Helsingborg, Sweden is represented by teams Anna Hasselborg and teams Niklas Edin - two very well-credited teams. Anna Hasselborg led her team to both Olympic and European gold in 2018, team Edin is the reigning world champion with lots of championship gold in the baggage.

Broadcasts the entire playoffs

- I see both teams as gold favorites. The men have an experience and a confidence that is difficult to beat. The ladies have not been in the world top for so long but have enough experience. I think both teams will enjoy playing at home, they have the confidence to handle the press. The toughest competition comes from Scotland and Switzerland, says SVT's expert commentator Eva Lund.

In total, SVT broadcasts 15 matches from the curling championships - ten matches from the group play and the entire playoffs. It is the largest investment ever in a curling championship in SVT.

- Curling can be an incredibly exciting sport and we notice a great deal of interest from the audience when it is big championships. When we now have a European Championship at home with two Swedish teams who both have a chance at the gold, we are happy to be able to make an extra large investment, says SVT Sports project manager Max Bursell.

The Curling European Championships in Helsingborg will be played November 16-23 and SVT will broadcast more than ever.

The championship is commented on by SVT's Niklas Nord and expert commentator Eva Lund.
