UAE boxer Rahma Al Murshidi won a bronze medal of 63 kg in the Asian Junior Championship which concluded yesterday, at Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah, becoming the first female citizen to receive a colored medal in boxing and from the first participation.

The draw for the tournament led to the boxing of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club (15 years), for the first match in the semi-final weight, against the Uzbek champion Aziza, and despite losing the match, she won the bronze according to the regulations of the tournament, which grants a medal to the contestant who reaches the semi-finals which arrived To him by lot.

Rahmat Al Murshidi was chosen for the young women team after participating in the summer program «Future Generations» organized by the Fujairah Martial Arts Club annually in the games practiced among them, before being approved by the boxing team in the club, which is supervised by Egyptian coach Adel El Ashry.

Rahma Al-Murshidi told Emirates Today: “I started boxing through the Future Generations program in August this year. At first I thought that this sport is frightening and could hurt me, but after practicing it I found it not dangerous, especially "It is practiced with the elements of protection and safety with the presence of a head shield."

She added: «At first I expected to face the refusal of my family to practice boxing, but my parents gave me the opportunity and trained under the supervision of coach Hanan Ibrahim Zeyoudi coach of the women's team for young women, and succeeded in crossing the first stage of this exercise».

She continued: «I am happy to participate in the Asian Championships for young women and happy because the draw helped me to reach an advanced stage although I won bronze without any victory, but the medal in general will encourage me to continue practicing boxing, and I look forward to success in the future».

Rahma's mother: The family supports its athletic approach

Boxing mother Rahma Al-Murshidi confirmed that her family supports her sporting orientation and will monitor this in order to continue in the game to serve the UAE sports.

Al Hefiti told Emirates Today: “We will support her continued boxing on condition that her athletic excellence coincides with excellence in study and we are happy to contribute mercy by adding a colored medal to the UAE's medal balance, and we look for the best, and achieve better medals later.”
