Skellefteå ends the group play with a clean group final, away to Finnish Kärpät. Ahead of the match, Skellefteå led the group, one point ahead of Kärpät and another one before Swiss Bern who meets French group jumper Grenoble.

And after the first period, it looks dark for Skellefteå.

Krejcik bombed

Just over halfway into the first period, Michal Kristof Kärpät gave the lead in powerplay, nicely played by Kärpet's NHL recruitment Jesse Puljujärvi.

Two and a half minutes later, Skellefteå's goalkeeper Gustaf Lindvall saw another puck go past him. In powerplay, Jakub Krejcik bombed a shot, past Lindvall lying on the ice.

Lindström scored a goal

Subsequently, there were major protests from Skellefteå's players, who felt that the goal should be sentenced for a Kärpät player to go down Lindvall.

But after a five-minute video review, the referees chose to approve the goal, as it was Skellefteå's Petter Granberg who cross-checked the Kärpät player, who then took Lindvall with him in the case.

Can be forced to hope for Grenoble

Before the period was over, however, Skellefteå was able to reduce, as Linus Lindström with one knee was able to steer a shot from Jacob Andersson.

If Kärpät were to win the match, Skellefteå must hope that Grenoble picks up a point against Bern later tonight, otherwise their CHL adventure is over for this time.
