Sarah Sjöström won two individual races on the first day and filled with another three wins during Sunday's closing of the very first ISL competition in Indianapolis.

Sjöström first won 100 meters freely at 51.76 - 58 hundredths ahead of Siobhan Haughey, Hong Kong. A while later came the second victory, at 50 meters butterfly ahead of Brianna Throssell, Australia.

Team competition

ISL is a completely new form of competition, designed as a team competition where a heats victory gives nine points and far too slow swimmers can get minus points. Sarah Sjöström competes for the team Energy Standard and took the most points of all swimmers to her team that won the first competition.

Extra points were added in the final "skins" race over 50 meters freely, a knockout competition over three heat with eight swimmers from the beginning, where half of the swimmers are knocked out after each race.

It is only three minutes rest between the race, but Sjöström seemed almost unmoved and won all three races in the unusual form of competition.

- I've competed in "skins" before, but only in long distance. Never in the short course. So that was a challenge, but it went well, says Sjöström to Eurosport.

"Cool"

Sarah Sjöström is one of the swimmers who pushed hardest for the new ISL tour and she is also something of a poster name for the venture, which offers higher prize money than the active ones are used to.

The Indianapolis competition was the very first and Sjöström was voted the competition's best swimmer - MVP - which gives extra prize money.

- This was really cool. This is the first time we are doing this so it is clear that there is a lot to learn about how to set up the competition, but I think we are doing a good job today, ”she told Eurosport.

The next race will be decided next weekend in Naples.
