Hirscher made his way onto the world stage in 2007 and in 2009 he won his first World Cup victory when he won the slalom competition in the Val d'isère. During his twelve-year career, he won a total of 68 World Cup victories and, for the past eight years, has seized the overall World Cup. A solid collection that most people can only dream of, which was also one of the reasons why the Austrian chose to leave already at the age of 30.

- It was perhaps a little surprising considering that he is only 30 years old. Then you have to understand him too and he doesn't have much left to prove. It is sad above all, I will miss him in the alpine circus, Myhrer tells SVT Sport and continues:

- What he has done is hard to surpass. Winning eight years in a row is an incredible feat.

"No secret that it will be easier"

When Hirscher went on to state that he called for a press conference, in Austria he chose to move forward a planned party leadership duel, so big he is in his home country.

- He's been huge. It is one of the biggest profiles, not only in alpine skiing but in all sports. I had been looking forward to being with him this winter.

What is your first memory of him?

- I remember a young Marcel who drove as he stole his skis in Kranjska Gora. I can't remember what year it was but it must have been around 2008-2009.

How do you make sure he is not in the coming season?

- It is probably no secret that it becomes easier so clearly when he is not in the picture, just look at the statistics. Nevertheless, I think it is sad that he will not be in my final year.
